Jimmy Buffett hospitalized after fall off concert stage

LOS ANGELES — Singer Jimmy Buffett was hospitalized with a head injury after falling off the stage at the end of a concert in Sydney, Australia.

Buffett, 64, fell face first Wednesday night after
an encore performance of “Lovely Cruise.” Buffett had performed Sunday
and Monday to sold-out crowds at Sydney’s Opera House before moving Wednesday to the Hordern Pavilion for a show tacked on in response to demand.

“It looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn’t get up,” a fan in the 10th row told Australia’s
Daily Telegraph, which reported that fans were told to leave the
auditorium immediately, without getting news on Buffett’s condition.

The singer was listed in stable condition at Sydney’s St. Vincent’s Hospital about four hours after the fall, CNN International said.

Down under, Wednesday is Australia Day — a holiday commemorating the arrival of Britain’s First Fleet in Sydney Harbor
in 1788. “It’s a day for all Australians to get together and, in
whatever way they choose, celebrate being Australian,” according the
holiday’s Facebook page.

Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band had not performed in Australia
for 20 years, the Daily Telegraph said, and loaded up the show with
references to the country and the holiday, plus a promise to return in
2012.
