The Spinwich
The Yellow Deli, 908 Pearl St., Boulder, yellowdeli.com

Stepping into The Yellow Deli is like stepping into another world. Outside is the bustle of Pearl Street, inside is a wooded cottage with fresh food and drinks, and plenty of stories to go around. If you’re passing by in the morning, stop in for a maté and a Spinwich, a remarkably robust non-meat breakfast sandwich. Fried eggs, fresh spinach, a three-cheese blend of parmesan, cheddar and hot pepper jack, onions and red peppers are layered on a buttered egg roll. The roll is bready decadence, and the special sauce The Yellow Deli puts on is zippy and irresistible — it’s sweet and tart, with plenty of hot spice. $6.75.

Charcoal Thyme Lemonade
Wonder,946 Pearl St., Boulder, wonderpress.co

Wonder has been slinging organic, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, coffee, tea and more for a while now, and it’s no wonder why they’ve attracted a rabid following. Their juices are expertly blended, always fresh and leave you feeling rejuvenated, even if you walk in skeptical about the power of juice. More than just a novelty, the midnight black Charcoal Thyme Lemonade is worth picking up. It’s made of filtered water, lemon juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, thyme tea (filtered water and thyme), activated charcoal powder and stevia. It’s really bright from the citrus, but the thyme tea infuses a strong herbal quality that keeps you coming back for more. $9.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Red Rock Coffeehouse, 3325 28th St., Boulder, redrockcoffeehouse.com

Baked by the owner himself, the breakfast breads at Red Rock Coffeehouse are worth stopping in for. The chocolate chip banana bread is ultra dense and ultra moist; sort of like a banana, come to think of it. But mixed in is cinnamon, chocolate chips and brown sugar. The crust is slightly chewy and provides a pleasant contrast to the indulgence of the bread. $4.

Cripple Creek Sub
Silver Mine Subs, 1100 28th St., Boulder, silverminesubs.com

When you’re in a bind after midnight, or just really hungry and need a no-frills sub, Silver Mine Subs is the place to be. Their menu of signature hot and cold sandwiches has stifled many a hunger pang in Boulder. Their Cripple Creek is a jam-packed take on the club sandwich, with grilled chicken, bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato and ranch. The chicken is juicy and tender, the bacon smoky, and the hoagie roll is soft and sweet. $7.
