Washington GOP candidate to reporter: ‘F— yourself’

Irritated by Todd Akin question, candidate

A few days after Missouri’s Todd Akin shocked many Americans with comments about “legitimate rape” and untold miracles of female anatomy, another Republican in a U.S. Senate race has provoked shock with his behavior.

Mike Baumgartner, a state senator in Washington running against Democratic incumbent Maria Cantwell for the U.S. Senate, grew frustrated with Seattle blogger Josh Feit’s questions about Akin and the related issue of abortion.

Baumgartner, who has staked his campaign largely on ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan, emailed Feit after an interview to express his anger at Feit’s questions. Baumgartner attached a photo of himself with a Navy SEAL and wrote, “Josh, this is Pat Feeks, a Navy SEAL killed last week in Afghanistan. Take a good look and then go f— yourself.”

Feit published the email, and while Baumgartner’s campaign issued an apology, Baumgartner himself later retracted it.
