Boulder County Commissioners
On June 10, commissioners:
- Approved the purchase of 20 acres at 5701 N. 79th St., Longmont, for $1.8 million by the county’s parks and open space department. The property, located in an area sometimes referred to as Gunbarrel Hill, was the site of a proposed indoor/outdoor tennis facility that sparked strong neighborhood opposition.
Property owners Rocky Mountain Tennis Center pulled their proposal in early 2024.
The land will now be used for wildlife and habitat preservation, according to a county parks and open space staffer. The underlying agricultural zoning will not be changed.
City of Boulder
On June 16, the city will:
- Commemorate the 160th anniversary of the freeing of all enslaved people in the U.S. by raising the Juneteenth flag at the Penfield Tate II Municipal Building (1777 Broadway). The event runs from 3-5 p.m. and will include live music, refreshments and comments from city and community leaders.
Boulder City Council will not meet the week of June 19. At its June 26 meeting, council will discuss the city’s long-term financial strategy and potential revenue-related ballot measures.
Louisville City Council
On June 3, council:
- Scheduled a July 8 public hearing and vote for changes to municipal code regarding parking minimums for multifamily and reuse development. Changes are required for compliance with Colorado HB24-1304, the state law that sparked a lawsuit from a handful of municipalities, including Lafayette. The cities are seeking to stop enforcement of the legislation meant to address Colorado’s housing shortage.
Louisville is not involved in the legal action.
