LOCAL BEEF DINNER

Black Cat Bistro in Boulder will be hosting a six-course beef dinner on Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The beef will be sourced from their own farm, and the event is a special opportunity to honor the Scottish Highland cattle that were brought to the farm last year.

“The steer lived a beautiful life, grazing on pristine Boulder County pasture and dwelling under the Colorado skies,” Black Cat says on its Facebook page. “Now it is time to celebrate with our first beef dinner from our farm. This six-course dinner will feature our succulent beef in every course. As a guest of honor, we will host Frank Silva, our region’s preeminent rancher and the source of our young steer.”

Silva and Black Cat Chef Erik Skokan will be on hand to talk about raising cattle and cooking meals from their meat throughout the evening. They will, of course, also be spending some time in the kitchen preparing the fare. Cost is $68 per person without alcohol; call for reservations.

LAGER TIME

Wibby Brewing is coming to Longmont soon, and with their arrival comes a brave foray into German-style lagers.

Wibby’s will focus on three brews: an IPL, “a hop head red lager with a well rounded bitterness, smooth malt finish and pungent, citrusy hop aroma”; a dunkel, “supple, crisp and surprisingly drinkable dark lager”; and a helles, a “light, sweet finishing, Bavarianinfluenced lager.”

The Wibby taproom will include lawn games and a gazebo, as well as a big open indoor space that lets visitors check out the brewing process. Look for it at First and Main in Longmont before June.

CELEBRATING WOMEN AND BEER

The Pink Boots Society will be hosting a fundraiser at Twisted Pine Brewery in Boulder on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 12-6 p.m.

The event includes a five-course beer and food pairing, exclusive brewery tours and a special tapping of a collaboration brew. Also, the brewery says, “some of the leading ladies of Twisted Pines will be with us” to talk about women in brewing and some of the unique brews Twisted Pines has come up with.

The Pink Boots Society, which will benefit from the event, was created to support the more than 1,000 women (and counting) in the brewing industry through education and career development. Entry is $25 for a standard ticket, and $35 for entry and a limited edition T-shirt.

TOUR DE FRANCE WINE DINNER AT ARUGULA

Dig into a five-course meal paired with French wines at Arugula on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Wines on display include selections from all over France, including a “fruity and smooth” Côtes du Rhône, a Gamay from Beaujolais and a 10-year-old Bordeaux.

“By smelling, sipping and savoring each wine, then using French culinary tradition for guidance, Chefs Alec and Sven have created a sumptuous and enticing January meal. Sommelier William Davis, of Wilson Daniels Fine Wine Importers, will lead the evening and share his vast knowledge of these wines,” the restaurant notes in a press release.

The wintery menu includes duck and chicken liver mousse, pork belly risotto, beef tenderloin and apple strudel. Cost is $50 per person, with an additional $29 per person for the wine pairings. Reservations required and seatings start at 6:30 p.m.
