MAMACITA’S NOW CLOSED

Sad emoticons. Boulder icon Mamacita’s threw in the towel after more than 20 years up on The Hill.

The Mexican restaurant changed ownership over the summer, and the newbs did some market research and felt that it was time for a change.

Winter will be spent doing renovations and then the location will reopen next year as a yet-to-be-named casual “Latininspired” restaurant.

ZENZA NOW OPEN

The cast of eateries in the North Boulder business cluster is growing, with the addition of Zenza, which is now open at 4479 Broadway.

The restaurant took its time taking over the spot that used to house the North Boulder Cafe, staggering the opening with a big party on Halloween, featuring performances from hip hop acts Afroman and Nappy Roots, and then pulling things back before opening up all the way earlier in mid-November.

Zenza is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily, and plans to keep the food, drink and live entertainment going in NoBo.

NAKED LUNCH ALSO NOW OPEN

Also now open is Naked Lunch, a new lunchtime sandwich joint started by Anthony Millazo, a co-owner of The Sundown Saloon.

“I’m not gonna lie, we’re hard to find,” Naked Lunch wrote on its website about its location next to Basta in the Peloton Building at 33rd and Arapahoe. “We wanted to be in a neighborhood and build really amazing relationships with our customers and we sacrificed a decent Google Maps listing with that. But we do get to see our favorite dogs everyday.”

Naked Lunch’s menu has a small selection of hot sandwiches like pastrami, bahn mi and a reuben, and a longer list of cold deli style sandwiches. There are also a selection of seasonal salads and coffee.

Naked Lunch is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD COURT

Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will be the first “Truckin’ It” event on 13th Street, between Arapahoe and Canyon streets. It’s not a complicated event. There will be food trucks there at lunchtime. That’s about it.

But what makes it cool is that Truckin’ It is being organized by local students tired of limited food options at nearby Boulder High School.

“The food at our high school sucks so why not use food trucks  sucks so why not use food trucks to fix that?” the group wrote online.

To pay for it, the student group is trying to raise $500 online through crowdfunding website Indiegogo.

“We will be using the money for our permit from the city, to print posters and flyers, and to close down the street where we are holding our event,” they wrote.

The campaign runs through Sunday, Nov. 30. At press time, the Truckin’ It campaign had raised $220.

“If we don’t raise our $500 we will have to dramatically reduce the scale of our event,” they wrote.

That might mean instead of  food trucks they’ll only be able to get food compact cars. Tragedy!

WE’RE NUMBER EIGHT! WE’RE NUMBER EIGHT!

When you’re a national company whose product is as cool as “green beans,” sometimes you get weird with your marketing.

In the case of Del Monte, they asked 1,500 Americans to rank where green bean casserole rated as a side-dish for Thanksgiving and then released the stateby-state rankings. Colorado is number eight, one spot ahead of California and one behind Florida. *Shakes fist at the sky* Florida!

Eat up everybody. We have to catch up to Kentucky, the green-bean-casserolelovingest state in the nation.
