Boulder County Commissioners
On Friday, May 16:
- Commissioner Claire Levy will be walking around Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat (3893 N. 75th St., Boulder) from 9-10 a.m. for informal conversations with residents. Registration required.
On Tuesday, May 20, commissioners will:
- Hold a public hearing and vote on reauthorizing elk management plans at Ron Stewart Preserve and Red Hill where “non-migrating elk populations” are damaging landscapes, according to staff notes.
Limited elk hunting has been allowed at Red Hill (along U.S. 36 between Heil Valley Ranch and Table Mountain) since 2020 and Ron Stewart Preserve (at Rabbit Mountain; 15140 N. 55th St., Longmont) since 2017 to control the population and “encourage herds to migrate.” Learn more.
Commissioners will decide whether or not to renew management plans for both areas for an additional five years. Staff is also recommending a discussion about “pausing hunting for the foreseeable future at Ron Stewart Preserve” and amending the hunting boundaries at Red Hill to remove areas west of U.S. 36.
The discussion is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sign up to speak in person (1325 Pearl St., third floor). Attend virtually
On Wednesday, May 21, commissioners will:
