6A + 6B: Downtown Development Authority (DDA)
Should a new government entity, with taxing authority, be formed to replace the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority?
- This measure would create a new government entity (Downtown Development Authority) to replace the existing one (Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority).
- The funding for LURA expires this year.
- This measure would not raise taxes; if property and sales tax revenue in the district increase, the extra would be used to fund the DDA.
- The DDA will be responsible for recruiting and retaining businesses in Old Town Lafayette, as well as events and other promotion, upkeep and maintenance, etc.
- Past LURA projects have included purchasing chairs and patios for businesses, funding facade improvements and providing loans to businesses to help with revamping buildings.
City of Lafayette Ballot Question 2A – Police Collective Bargaining Ordinance
Should Lafayette’s police officers be able to collectively bargain with the city?
- Lafayette firefighters already have the right to collectively bargain.
- So do police departments in other cities: Boulder, Aurora and Longmont, for example.
- This could make it easier for Lafayette to hire cops.
- Opponents of collective bargaining argue that it reduces transparency and accountability, while proponents say it assures individual cops their right to due process.
