With 10 nominees this year for the best picture Oscar, AMC Entertainment has expanded its annual Best Picture Showcase to two consecutive Saturdays.

Tickets go on sale Friday for the screenings at select theaters nationwide. The showcase begins at 10:30 a.m. both days, and the theaters will supply unlimited popcorn. The lineup:

Feb. 27: “Avatar,” “Up in the Air,” “Precious,” “The Blind Side” and “Inglourious Basterds.”

March 6 (the day before the Academy Awards ceremony): “Up,” “A Serious Man,” “The Hurt Locker,” “An Education” and “District 9.”

A two-day pass costs $50 ($60 if purchased online), and a one-day pass goes for $30. Special discounts are available for MovieWatcher members.

AMC scheduled “Avatar” for the Feb. 27 batch because the following weekend the film would compete for 3-D screens with Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.” The company asked the public to vote in an
online poll to determine the rest of the schedule. More details are at www.amcentertainment.com.
