A flight of four at Barquentine Brewing Company's spacious taproom

The 2020 version of the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) is underway, which means if you haven’t picked up your GABF passport yet, you still can (greatamericanbeerfestival.com/passport/) and partake in a weekend’s worth of free and discounted beer from participating breweries. There are plenty to choose from in Boulder County, but if you’ve frequented GABF in the past, then you know the festival is not about the familiar; it’s about the discoveries. So, in that spirit, head down to Edgewater and Barquentine Brewing Company for half-priced flights — ideal for a brand new brewery with a varied selection. Pictured left to right are Cabana Pop (tropical fruit sour), Goat Got Out Again (farmhouse IPA), Sloans Lake Yacht Club (table beer) and Dubbel (abbey-style ale). Goat Got Out Again is the standout: Fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and Brettanomyces, it’s hop-forward with pops of citrus, ripe fruit and resin, with a funky, bready backing. It’s brighter than you might expect, and it’s worth the full pour.
