Paying upwards of $90 to run (sometimes bike) and crash through military-style obstacles isn’t exactly the typical way to spend a Saturday. So why are adventure races gaining in popularity?

Trying to eat better this spring? Or at least trying to look better when you bust out the shorts and swimsuits this summer? Boulder Weekly sat down with James Lee, owner/partner of Blackbelly Catering and The Bitter Bar to discuss his favorite seasonal drinks and ways to tailor them for the health-conscious.

Matt Cudmore always wanted to own a ski shop. The idea struck Cudmore in his time as a ski instructor in Germany. Three years ago, the 32-year-old found himself drinking beers with his neighbor in his garage and threw the idea out there again.

Porter, a prosthetist with Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics in Lafayette, spent 14 days in Haiti fitting and constructing prosthetics for people affected by the January 2010 earthquake. Stephanie Porter opens a box and pulls out a small brown foot. She then removes a metal pylon and a plastic socket from the box. She grimaces as she inserts the foot into the metal “bone” and the bone into the plastic socket. “We want this to become a part of their body,” she says.

Organs and cross-sections of specimens make up the bulk of the exhibition. The most stunning parts of the exhibit feature full-size human bodies posed to enhance musculature and showcase different parts of the body.

Many hardcore athletes and weekend warriors call Boulder home, enjoying the area’s hiking trails, cycling routes and nearby ski resorts. So it makes sense that chiropractor Sande Jacobson, an avid skier and golfer, would move his Living Health and Wellness Center to Boulder. A Philadelphia native, Jacobson has practiced for 18 years, combining traditional chiropractic techniques with nutrition counseling and other holistic practices.

When Mike Doughty released Sad Man Happy Man this past October, he wasn’t sure how his fans were going to react. The former Soul Coughing front man has been putting out albums on his own since 2002. The popular “Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well,” off 2005’s Haughty Melodic, was featured on the television show, Grey’s Anatomy. But when he released his last solo effort, Golden Delicious, in 2008, his fans blasted it for being too poppy and overproduced.
