Earth Balance launches new products

Niwot’s Earth Balance, a line of all-natural buttery spreads, shortenings, nut butters and soymilk, has introduced Organic Coconut Spread and MindfulMayo Dressing and Sandwich Spread nationwide. The Organic Coconut Spread will be available exclusively at Whole Foods Market.

The coconut spread is made from a similar formula to the Earth Balance buttery spread, with organic extra virgin coconut oil replacing soybean oil. The vegan spread works as a butter replacement for baking and cooking.

The MindfulMayo Dressing and Sandwich Spread is a refrigerated condiment is cholesterol-free, egg-free and dairy-free. The MindfulMayo Dressing and Sandwich Spread is available in Original, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Organic.

Both are verified by the Non- GMO Project.

Salt Bistro hosts music and beer pairing

Learn how to pair music and booze on Monday, Aug. 29, at Salt in Boulder.

From 8 to 10 p.m., Salt will be pairing limited-edition beers from New Belgium with live music by the Prairie Scholars, a Texas soul duo.

The band will talk about the stories behind each song, and Salt employees will explain the pairing decisions between the music and the beer. Fine cheeses, cured meats and flatbreads will be served. The event is $55 per person. Limited seating available.

Haystack Mountain wins awards

Longmont’s Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy won three awards for its cheeses from the American Cheese Society (ACS) at its annual competition in August in Montreal.

Haystack Mountain competed with 1,676 cheeses and cultured dairy products from North and South America in this year’s ACS competition. It received a first-place award for its Green Chile Jack and third-place awards for its Camembert and popular Queso de Mano.

Haystack Mountain’s Queso de Mano has won four awards in the highly competitive ACS contest in the past, and its Camembert won Gold and Bronze awards at the international World Cheese Contest in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Haystack Mountain cheeses are handcrafted at the company’s creamery. They are sold at restaurants, grocery stores and independent cheese shops throughout the United States.

A Taste of Boulder

In addition to offering some of the state’s best food, the annual A Taste of Colorado in downtown Denver over the Labor Day weekend will feature some of Boulder County’s best.

Among those attending the event, held Sept. 2–5 in Civic Center Park, will be Hosea Rosenberg, Bravo TV’s “Top Chef ” Season Five winner, who will cook smoked rainbow trout salad with cucumber, horseradish and endive at 3:30 p.m. Friday on the Culinary Showcase stage. Rosenberg is guest chef at Jax Fish House in Boulder and has cooked for Wolfgang Puck, Kevin Taylor and Sean Yontz.

The event will also feature several Boulder-area musicians, including Boa & the Constrictors, Skean Dubh, Giddyup Kitty, the Gora Gora Orkestar, Planina and The Champions.
