An octogenarian Japanese man is planning a third summit of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, hoping to retake a record for oldest hike to the summit.
Yuichiro Miura, who climbed Everest at age 70 and 75, calls hiking up the mountain “the ultimate anti-aging effect.” He set the age record with his age-70 hike but has since lost the record to a fellow Japanese man, Katsusuke Yanagisawa, then age 71.
Miura, who suffers from a heart arrhythmia, says he doesn’t care much about the record, acknowledging it will eventually be broken.
Miura was also the first person to ski down Everest, descending the South Col from 8,000 meters in 1970, aided by a parachute.
