Land of the free, sure, but every once in a great while, there will be a story in local and national media that details an American artist's struggle against censorship. If an artist is in fact fined or jailed, the general response of many Americans is pure outrage coupled with frequent references to the First Amendment.

In the early 2000s, back when Napster was king and iTunes was a twinkle in Apple’s eye, an underground rendition of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon was making its way around college campuses around the country. This was the first labor of love for the Easy Star All-Stars, and paved the way for what some might consider the most successful cover band in recent memory. Dub Side of the Moon proved to be one of the most influential remakes of this classic album, and most creative for its rendering in dub (i.e. classic reggae style).

Depending on which Saturday night you decide to stop by Dan Fairchild’s house, you could be treated to a string quartet, a Brazilian guitar trio, or a Balkan brass band. Fairchild is one of several hosts of house concerts in Boulder and has been bringing artists and audiences together for almost 10 years. Fairchild says he first decided to host house concerts to hear more of the music he likes, especially music that may not be accessible anywhere else.

To say that Nancy Cranbourne is excited about her dance company would be a bit of an understatement. “I’m in love with these women,” says Cranbourne. “I’m in love with what they do. Everything comes out of this place of inspiration and love and I’m just blessed with that. I so admire them; they are my heroes.”
