Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) has confirmed the first case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Colorado for the 2011 season. A 47-year-old Longmont woman reported that she first became ill on July 4.
She developed a severe headache, body aches and extreme fatigue. She was not hospitalized, and her symptoms have since improved.
The Boulder County Commissioners are reviewing proposals for reopening the Nederland area sort yard on a limited basis this year to accept additional slash and logs from county residents. More information on potential dates and hours for these extra collections will be released later this summer.

On June 4, Pearl Street businesses will encourage the Boulder community to get tested by displaying red ribbons in their storefronts, having their staffs wear red HIV testing T-shirts and ribbons, and in some cases even offering a discount to those who get tested.
Participants can sponsor a duck for $5 and watch as they are dumped over the 9th Street Bridge and race to the finish near the Boulder Creek Library lawn at the Peace Garden. This year's prizes include a three-night, allinclusive stay at Palace Resort in Cancun, and airfare is included.
