For once this season, Colorado looked human. Coming into the game at 6-0, the Buffs, facing 2-5 Idaho, figured to be a sure lock to roll to victory on Sunday afternoon.

It seemed as if Colorado’s men basketball team had no business being anywhere close to Colorado State Wednesday night in Fort Collins. At least that’s what CU Coach Tad Boyle thought not long after Nate Tomlinson’s last-second three rimmed out, sealing the Buffs’ one-point loss at the hands of the rival Rams.

The price of poker is going up in Puerto Rico. That’s how Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle described the challenge his team faces this week at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, starting tonight against Wichita State at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

The days of consistent 0-3 losses for the University of Colorado volleyball team appear to be over. After a fairly successful four-game road trip,  CU returned home to face Stanford and California, both top 10 teams.

More than 50,000 fans were on hand to watch CU deliver another sorry performance riddled with the same thoughtless penalties, blocked field  goals, injuries, shoddy red zone play and subpar secondary defense that have produced nine losses already this season.

When Linda Lappe posted the results of the Pac-12 preseason women’s basketball poll, which predicted the Buffs would finish 11th, on the door of her team’s locker room, the Buffs immediately became motivated.

A year ago, Tad Boyle, men’s basketball coach at the University of Colorado, entered his first season with the knowledge that his team was talented, but he knew little else about his Buffs.

Coming into the game without a win for more than a month, the Buffs figured to be a major underdog against a Cal team that was ranked as high as 18th in the nation.

After a 45-2 crushing at the hands of the explosive Oregon Ducks, Colorado Coach Jon Embree challenged his seniors to create a legacy that they can be proud of as the Buffs close out the 2011 campaign.

When soccer coach Bill Hempen slammed the gate as he exited Prentup Field during the University of Colorado’s matchup with Oregon, it was clear to all in attendance that a difficult season for the Buffs had just reached its boiling point.
