Comedy queens Fey, Poehler to host Golden Globes

Two of the most successful women in comedy will pair up on hosting duties for the 2013 Golden Globes, NBC has announced. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, each of whom leads a successful NBC comedy, will take over for Ricky Gervais when the awards show airs Jan. 13.

Poehler, who stars in Parks & Recreation, and Fey, who leads 30 Rock, are perhaps the two best-known female comedians in entertainment. Both have large followings from their show, which may be one reason the Globes chose the two.

The Golden Globes face unprecedented competition from the Academy Awards, which moved their nomination announcement up to three days before the Globes are awarded. This move could limit the Golden Globes’ popularity.

Then again, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was chosen to host the Oscars. There’s little doubt Poehler and Fey outshine him in star power.
