Paramount aims for franchises with ‘Jack Reacher,’ Jack Ryan

The CEO of Viacom, parent company of Paramount film company, says its strategy will begin shifting by the end of this year toward strengthening franchises and developing its brand. The strategy will start, Philippe Dauman says, with its upcoming Tom Cruise action-thriller Jack Reacher.

Reacher, based on novels by Lee Child, will ideally be the first in a series, Dauman says — though talking sequels before the first film is out might best be left to literary classics.

Dauman also says the studio will bring back character Jack Ryan, featured in The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games, for future films, in addition to already-running franchise Transformers.
