AWARDS SEASON IS BACK AGAIN

Mateo Restaurant will hold its third annual Oscars party at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26. For $25, guests can watch the pre-show and the awards ceremony and cast ballots for which actors and films they think will take home a trophy. Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed — black tie is suggested — and the most accurate ballot. Mateo will offer appetizers, dessert and drink specials. Make a reservation at 303-443-7766.

BEER PAIRINGS AND COOKING COURSES AT DEVIL’S THUMB

Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash will hold the second dinner and beer pairing in its yearlong Brewmaster Dinner Series Feb. 24, when they’ll offer three tastings from Steamworks Brewing of Durango. Executive Chef Evan Treadwell and his culinary team coordinate with specially selected breweries and their brewmaster to customize menus that showcase each beer’s qualities. Members of the brewery will also be on hand to share insights on the process. Seats are $39, which includes a three-course dinner with beer pairings. The events run from 6 to 9 p.m. and reservations are recommended.

Devil’s Thumb will also host cooking classes led by Treadwell in the newly opened Yager House, which includes a demonstration kitchen. Classes include a demonstration followed by a three-course dinner, a recipe book, a Devil’s Thumb Ranch signature chef’s apron and wine pairings. The classes cost $125 and advanced reservations are required. The class is 5:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 29. For more information, visit www. devilsthumbranch.com or call 970-726-5632.

UH, GUYS, THAT’S NOT A WEEK

To celebrate “the culinary scene of Denver” and to combat that dead time between Valentine’s Day and the summer, scores of Denver-area restaurants will participate in Denver Restaurant Week, Feb. 25 to March 9.

That’s right — Denver Restaurant “Week” lasts for two weeks. And the “Denver” part isn’t entirely true either — 23 restaurants in the Boulder area will participate this year, from Louisville to North Boulder, including several in downtown Boulder. Participating restaurants offer a multi-course menu for $52.80 for two or $26.40 for one. Reservations are generally recommended. A full list of participating restaurants is available at the event’s website, www.denver.org/denverrestaurant.

MOUNTAIN SUN GETS HAIRY

At the culmination of two bizarre honorary months, both of Boulder’s Mountain Sun pubs will host Stout Month and Chop Month celebrations at 10 p.m. Feb. 29. Mountain Sun and Southern Sun will offer drink specials for Stout Month and will host Chop Month competitions, which celebrate facial and head hairstyles.

Employees and owners are encouraged to cut their hair in unusual styles and shapes, and contestants will compete for audience votes for best hair and facial hair. Do in public what you do in your head all the time and cast votes on others’ hair.
