SourFest at Avery

Tickets for Avery Brewing’s second annual Boulder SourFest went on sale this week.

The festival will be held June 11 from noon to 5 p.m. with craft brewers from around the country showing off more than 60 rare sour beers.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Colorado Brewer’s Guild, and tickets can be purchased for $45 online at www.averybrewing.com, or at the Avery tap room.


What’s organic?

A food documentary featuring a Colorado organic farm will screen at Boulder’s Nomad Theatre on April 13.

The film, What’s Organic about Organic?, looks at how organic farming is being shaped as demand grows. Filmmaker Shelley Rogers focuses on Grant Family Farms, located in Wellington, which was the first farm to be certified organic by the state of Colorado in 1988.

What’s Organic About Organic? won the “Our Planet” award at the Los Angeles Going Green Film Festival.

Tickets are available for the Boulder screening at www.whatsorganicmovie.com. The screening will be held at 6:25 p.m., although appetizers and beverages, as well as a chance to sign up for a CSA share, will be offered beginning at 5:30 p.m. A question-and-answer period with Rogers and CSA Director Josh Palmer will follow the screening.


Farm boxes to your door

Door to Door Organics is making it even easier to support the local economy with its “Local Farm Box.”

Available from June to October, the box will be full of 100 percent Colorado-grown produce from more than 15 local farms. The box will also be customizable, since customers will have the ability to make substitutions and add additional items. The farm origin of each item, farm news, details on upcoming farm events, seasonal eating tips and recipes are included in each box.

Guilty pleasure

Odell Brewing is re-releasing its Double Pilsner on April 9.

The Fort Collins company calls the Double Pilsner its “guilty pleasure,” a brew that weighs in at 8.1 percent ABV. It balances the classic Bohemian Pilsner with a rich Pilsen malt base. The beer will be available all summer as part of the brewery’s line of four-pack offerings.

It will also be available in Colorado Beer Week events. Colorado Beer Week is being held for the first time at select Colorado breweries from April 8 to April 16.

Gluten-free Moose

Smiling Moose Deli has launched a new gluten-free menu at all 13 of its locations, as well as for its catering business.

The deli chose Sweet Escape Pastries, a Colorado bakery, to create a gluten-free hoagie roll for its sandwiches.

They also have ensured there is no cross-contact in the kitchen by using individually wrapped rolls, and they have started new kitchen procedures to prepare and serve each meal.
