Oh boy, oysters!

It’s Jax’s Oyster Month, and they’ll be filling you up — as well as stocking EFAA’s shelves. Jax Fish House in Denver and Boulder will be participating in the 13th Annual Oyster Month, with specials and events throughout the month.

Oyster Month benefits EFAA, the Emergency Family Assistance Association, which helps to meet the needs for food, shelter and other basic necessities to families in need. The event will also benefit The Gathering Place, a safe daytime refuge for selfsufficiency for women and children.

The Boulder Jax will have weekly oyster specials, including a five-course shell dinner on March 21 at 7:30 p.m.; a three-course oyster tasting menu the week of March 14, for $35 a person; and the Boulder Oyster Eating Contest on March 20, with doors opening at 2 p.m. There will also be a 13 oysters for $13 special.

On March 8, Jax will take a break from celebrating oysters and celebrate Mardi Gras with a $35 three-course dinner, which includes a traditional crawfish gumbo, shrimp hush puppies and a blackened red trout.

Call 303-444-1811 for reservations at Jax Fish House Boulder for any of these events.

Brewery and birthday bash

Denver’s Vine Street Pub, the younger sibling of Boulder’s Mountain Sun and Southern Sun Pubs, is celebrating the ground-breaking of its new brewery at the “Smokin’ Hot Anniversary Party,” on Wednesday, April 20.

Beginning at 4:20 p.m., and continuing until the restaurant closes, Vine Street Pub will be offering barbeque, beer and live music to benefit Denver’s Judi House. The barbeque will be provided by Chef Rob Green; the beer will be an anniversary release of Chupacabra, an imperial Mexican lager dry-hopped with mint leaves and aged in oak; and the live music will be provided the By All Means Band.

The brewery is expected to be finished by the fall of 2011, which means Mountain Sun and Southern Sun Pub & Brewery won’t have to supply the house brews for the Denver pub any longer.

Love the earth, plant a seed

Growing Gardens places an emphasis on sustainable gardening, education and community building.

The Earth Day event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, is open to all Door to Door Organics customers, friends and families. Odell unleashed

Odell Brewing, located in Fort Collins, will unleash its new creation, Myrcenary Double IPA, as a yearround four-pack on Feb. 26.

Named for Myrcene, a component of the essential oils found in a hop flower, Myrcenary is brewed with nearly six pounds of seven different hop varieties in each barrel. In addition to the four-packs, Myrcenary is also now available on draft at most Old Chicago locations.
