Police investigate fatal accident

The Boulder Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred at 28th Street and Iris Avenue on July 3 at about 11:50 p.m.

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Iris Avenue at 28th Street when he collided with a Dodge Intrepid that was turning from eastbound Iris to northbound 28th Street. The motorcyclist was transported to Boulder Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 a.m. The driver of the Intrepid was not injured.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Sgt. Jack Walker at 303-441-4314.

Burned Barcalounger

On July 1, Boulder police officers responded to 10th and College Streets on report of a Barcalounger recliner that had been set on fire.

The flames damaged a light pole nearby. There was no information about possible suspects, police said, and no witnesses to explain how the fire started.

Taser takes down traffic stroller

While on patrol on June 27, a Boulder police officer noticed a man lying on the north sidewalk along Pearl Parkway, under the Foothills overpass.

As the officer approached to check the man’s welfare, the suspect stood up and began to stagger into oncoming traffic. According to police reports, the officer attempted to push him back to the sidewalk, and the suspect became verbally threatening and angry, flexing his arms.

The officer used a Taser on the suspect, who fell on the ground and hit his head on the pavement. He lost consciousness, sustaining a closed-head injury, and an ambulance was called to assist.

Suspicious bag halts justice

On June 25, Boulder police officers were dispatched to assist the Boulder County Sheriff ’s Office after a suspicious bag was left outside the north wing of the Boulder County Justice Center at about 9:35 a.m.

The Boulder police locked down the Justice Center for approximately 50 minutes. Six courtrooms and the jury assembly room were evacuated as a precaution.

Boulder County sheriff ’s deputies located the owner of the bag inside the building. He told police he left the bag outside because he was afraid of being late for court and didn’t want to take it through security.

There were no dangerous or illegal objects found in the bag, and he was not charged. About 15 law enforcement officers from both agencies were involved in resolving the situation.

Pearl Street flasher

A juvenile male was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct on June 26 in the area of 11th and Pearl Streets after he pulled down his pants in front of several females and a mother with her two-year-old daughter.

According to police reports, the suspect was uncooperative and yelling obscenities at officers, and several witnesses confirmed his behavior.

Prowler or Realtor?

On June 27 Boulder police officers responded to a report of a prowler at a woman’s residence in the 1800 block of Walnut Street.

The woman said she woke up and heard a noise outside her bedroom door, and when she opened it, a man was standing there. She called the police after she asked what he was doing and he responded, “Your Realtor sent me to check if the lights were off.”

Police found the suspect lying on a porch nearby, and the woman was able to positively identify him. The 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, theft and third-degree trespassing.

Missing woman found

A 31-year-old female with severe medical problems and a history of depression left a residence in the 600 block of Sunshine Canyon on July 5 at approximately 9 p.m.

The Boulder County Sheriff ’s Office and other emergency crews responded and searched the area. Approximately 90 minutes later, a resident in the area heard a woman yelling for help. Rocky Mountain Rescue group responded and was able to rescue the woman, who was identified as the missing victim. She was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for treatment.
