Esperanza Spalding

Sunday, Aug. 2, 8 p.m. Fox Theatre, 1135 13th St., Boulder, 303-447-0095.

Esperanza Spalding’s upright bass is bigger than she is, but that doesn’t stop her from bringing the house down when she plays her jazz tunes on it. A four-time Grammy Award winner, Spalding is only 30 years old but already is more than a decade into a career that has spanned four albums and includes collaborations with artists such as Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars. Spalding was also chosen by President Barack Obama to perform at the President’s 2009 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. Spalding’s one-of-a-kind music translates well to a live show, where it is near impossible for audiences not to bust a move.
