THE RADISH AFFAIR

Hey, who likes radishes? If you do, the Longmont Farmers’ Market is coming through for you in a big way as the first-ever Radish Festival comes to the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont on May 30 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

It is the first of six seasonal food festivals held by the Boulder County Farmers’ Markets this year. The Radish Festival will highlight 10 varieties of radishes grown locally, and will feature the Raddest Farmer contest, radish-based recipe demonstrations from the Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, and radish-centric games. Kids can get in on all the radish fun with radish face-painting and necklace making.

The Tasterie Truck will be selling radishbased dishes with a Thai pork bowl and radish salad. Seb’s Wood Fired Cuisine will be selling a radish flatbread and the St. Vrain Vineyards will pair their wines with radish butter toasts.

CHUGGING ALONG

Oskar Blues and Adventure Fit want you to drink and run on May 30 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. during their Burning Can ExtravaCANza and Beer Relay at Bohn Park in Lyons.

Burning Can is a celebration of canned craft beer, outdoor sports, live music and camping. The event coincides with the Lyons Outdoor Games, so Burning Can attendees can watch freestyle kayaking, BMX bike jumping, slack line competitions and more.

But if all that spectating gets you in the mood to compete, then sign up for the festival’s inaugural beer relay. It is the first-ever trail running and beer drinking event. Teams take turns running a 5K trail loop, and two minutes are taken off each lap time if you drink a 12-ounce Oskar Blues brew before you start running. What could go wrong?

Tickets are available at burningcan.com.

For $40, you’ll get unlimited tastings from over 50 canned brewers. A $60 VIP ticket gets you in an hour early. Beer Relay tickets are $50-$65 per person and include race beer, race hydration, headbands and more. There is no limit on team size.
