INTERNATIONAL RESPECT FOR CHICKENS DAY 

Marty McFly hated being called chicken in Back to the Future. But did anyone think about how the chicken felt, being constantly slandered, its name used to imply the cowardice of a tiny man lost in time? What does a tiny, flightless, evolved dinosaur have to do to get some respect in this world?

Maybe, it’s time chickens got their own day. Well, McFlys of the world, that time is now.

Sunday, May 4 is International Respect for Chickens Day, on which vegans of the world will show solidarity for their fine, feathered friends. Participants are encouraged to hand out leaflets, call their local radio stations or host a vegan open house to show the carnivores of the world that there is life after Col. Sanders.

The event is annual and was created by United Poultry Concerns in 2005.

LEARN TO TACO LIKE A BOSS 

It’s official: Boulder loves tacos. And there’s no more taco-ey taco day out there in taco-land, than Cinco de Mayo.

And for this year’s big taco day, the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts wants to help you see them in a whole new light with a one-day cooking workshop.

Participants will learn how to make dishes like skirt steak, salsa verde, Asian style pork belly and more.

The three-hour workshop will turn any amateur cook into a street-style taco making god. Or en espanol, Dios de los tacos.

The class goes down, Monday May 5 from 5:30-9 p.m. and costs $95.

RESTAURANT ANNIVERSARIES ARE THE BEST KIND 

Here in Boulder, we like to celebrate good restaurants all the time. But that celebration is all the sweeter when there’s actually a reason to celebrate. Like, say, a birthday.

Downtown noodle-peddlers PastaVino will be celebrating their second year in business on Thursday, May 1. The regular menu will be MIA for an evening and replaced with a series of special offerings conceived by the owner and Executive Chef Fabio Flagiello.

The menu includes, baby grilled pasta, triangle shaped pasta with crab meat, and mediterranean mussels.

All the food will be 50 percent off, all the more reason to participate in Flagiello’s success.

The par-tay will be going down Thursday, May 1 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are not required, but are recommended.

LOUISVILLE WELCOMES A WINE HOUSE 

Louisville is jumping on the wine bandwagon with the opening of Por Wine House, a new Tapas Bar & Restaurant that will be officially open open on Thursday, May 1.

But if you can’t wait that long, that’s okay. “If you are downtown stop by, say hello and check out our progress at 836 Main St. behind Bittersweet Cafe,” Por posted on its Facebook page.

We just might do that.
