Struck down by heart failure

New wave and art rock pioneers, Devo, posted a message to their Facebook wall today announcing the death of one of the band’s founding members.

From Devo’s Facebook…

Very sad news to report today.

Bob Casale of Devo. Born: July 14th, 1952 . Deceased: February 17th, 2014

As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches
with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid
performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got.
He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo
to play shows again. His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart
failure came as a total shock to us all.

Gerald Casale, Devo founder.

The band had been relatively active lately, releasing several new albums and a DVD collection of videos in the last several years. A new live album recorded at Max’s Kansas City in 1977 is set to be released for this year’s Record Store Day in April.

Bob is survived by the band’s other members, including his brother, Gerald.
