The federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that soon, possibly within the next few decades, there will be almost no ice in the Arctic during the summer.
Two scientists with NOAA studied trends in Arctic ice melting, which occurs every spring and summer, and used three different prediction methods to make their overall prediction.
While the three methods gave “widely different dates,” Muyin Wang at the University of Washington said, they all reached the same conclusion: Before the middle of the 21st century, almost all ice in the Arctic will melt over the summer.
