EATING EXPERTISE

An iPhone app aiming to rise above the Urbanspoon crowd is coming to Boulder.

Claiming “the marketplace is saturated with anonymous user-generated content,” the Chefs Feed app provides users with food reviews and restaurant recommendations from experts — working chefs. The app, already operating in 16 cities, is launching service to Denver and Boulder March 6.

The app will feature reviews and recommendations from Frank Bonanno of Mizuna and Luca d’Italia, Steve Redzikowski of OAK at Fourteenth and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson of Frasca and Pizzeria Locale, a press release from Chefs Feed says. The app is free and available from the iTunes store, where it’s been downloaded more than 250,000 times. It was selected as one of the best apps of 2012 by Apple.

MORE CHICAGO-STYLE FROM SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco-based Patxi’s Pizza has opened a second location in Denver, complementing its Cherry Hills location (yeah, that’s where Peyton Manning lives) with a Cherry Creek restaurant.

The pizzeria, which also has seven California locations, makes “Chicago-style and Italian pizzas,” with an emphasis on freshly-made food and a cornmeal crust for its pan pizzas. Patxi’s (pronounced PAH-cheese) is launching the cornmeal crust strictly in Denver as part of its Chicago-style deep dish pies. Like Colorado favorite Beau Jo’s, Patxi’s recommends finishing the crust with honey. For more information, see patxispizza.com.

FATE TO START BREWING PROCESS

FATE Brewing Company has officially opened its brewery, housed within the company’s restaurant on 38th Street.

The brewing company, which up to now has been serving collaboration concoctions made with other breweries, will now start brewing its own beer. The beer is expected to be available by late March, the company says.

FATE’s brewing operation is headed by former Golden City Brewery brewer Jeff Griffith. At Golden City Brewery, Griffith helped create unusual beers like the JavaPeņo Imperial Stout.
