Performances take place in the historic Macky Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile

Tickets: $12 to $52
World-renowned double bassist Edgar Meyer and Nickel Creek’s mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile join forces to open the Artist Series season with a diverse program of original music.

Tickets: $12 to $52
Rooted in African-American cultural traditions, Philadanco is Philadelphia’s premiere modern dance company. Sat., Oct. 11, 2008
Tickets: $12 to $52
After 25 years of friendship and music-making, violinist Ani Kavafian, pianist Andre-Michel Schub and clarinetist David Shifrin — each a true virtuoso and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center — come together as a trio with undeniable chemistry. Combined, they have performed with nearly every major orchestra and in recital at the world’s major concert halls.

Tickets: $12 to $52
Back from South Africa by popular demand, the awe-inspiring Soweto Gospel Choir performs in eight different languages in a compelling program of tribal, traditional and popular African and Western gospel music. Earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, a capella and charismatic performances combine to uplift the soul and express South Africa’s great hopes for the future.

Colorado Symphony Orchestra
Jeffrey Kahane, music director
Alisa Weilerstein, cello
“If Ms. Weilerstein is precocious, it is in communicating, as many older musicians do not, a distinctive artistic personality. She lets you know exactly who she is, and it’s hard to imagine not wanting to develop the acquaintance in the years ahead.” New York Times
Thurs., Jan. 15, 2009
Tickets: $12 to $52
The Artist Series is proud to welcome the Colorado Symphony for a special performance in Boulder’s Macky Auditorium featuring soloist Alisa Weilerstein. Eight decades later, the issues and oratory of the Scopes trial — pitting evolution against creationism — have a hauntingly familiar ring. L.A. Theatre Works performs a radio-play-format production of The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial — based on actual trial transcripts — with a cast starring renowned stage and screen actors.

Quickly rising international star violinist Julia Fischer joins the Academy as soloist and leader.

Vanguard Jazz Orchestra
“The band’s orchestral colors, rhythms, and formal strategies could take on modernist garb, but the band has always had a shout-it-out-loud enthusiasm, producing huge tones that are both thrilling and precise.” The New Yorker
Wed., March 18, 2009
Tickets: $12 to $52
For more than four decades New York’s Vanguard Jazz Orchestra has been committed to engaging audiences and serving as a creative outlet for some of the nation’s foremost performers, composers and arrangers. Mariza
“When Mariza sings, time stands still. Every word is sung with intense concentration, every note hit flawlessly. When she pauses for dramatic effect, we are all with her, caught in her trap…” BBC Radio
