Get your gear fix
by Andrew Katz

A seemingly tell-all online guidebook on what gear to wear and use when you are exploring the world around you, GearJunkie.com wants nothing more than to connect you with nature. Whether you are spending the weekend with the guys from college or catching up with a few friends down the street, Gear Junkie aims to provide you with the know-how you need to have a safe and enjoyable time on your crazy adventure, wherever it may be.

In a section titled Daily Dose, Gear Junkie suggests heated jackets, which also have the capability to charge electronic devices, are the way to go when climbing mountains in cold or unfamiliar areas. Water pouches for long marathons and waterproof hiking shoes are also highlighted.

Unsure about a certain piece of clothing or equipment suggested by Gear Junkie? Just visit the Gear Review Archive — an extensive collection of hundreds of reviews ranging from travel luggage to energy bars to mountain bikes to backpacks. To hear about the adventures of other outdoorsy people like yourself, go to the Adventures section and read about running in the winter, the world’s 10 most dangerous mountains or the “Fastest Grandpa on the Planet.”

Launched in September 2006, Gear Junkie is “devoted to the outdoors, health, fitness, adventure travel, and all the gear and equipment associated with those pursuits.” It is maintained by outdoors enthusiast Stephen Regenold, a freelance columnist for The New York Times, and is a spin-off of Regenold’s 2002 Gear Junkie newspaper column.
