Independence Day Calendar July 4
Arvada Patriotic Concert and Fireworks — Head to Arvada for a two-day holiday weekend celebration. On Friday, July 3, the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts presents the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra performing Sea to Shining Sea at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $10 for adults and $1 for kids. On the Fourth, the festivities continue at 3 p.m. at the Lutz/Stengler Sports Complex (Ralston Road and Oak Street). The event named, “Hot Times, Kool Cars” features a classic car show by KOOL 105, a Marine military display, a kid’s park, live music, food concessions and a fireworks display. Boulder July 4th Sesquicentennial Stroll — The Independence Day stroll is part of Boulder’s 150th birthday party. The all-day event, organized by the Boulder 150 Sesquicentennial Celebration committee, travels to several historic landmarks around town.
Festivities start at 1 a.m. at Chautauqua Auditorium and conclude at Ralphie’s Independence Day blast at Folsom Field. Participants who complete the entire stroll and get their maps stamped at each stop will receive a commemorative award in recognition of the Sesquicentennial. The stroll winds through Columbia Cemetery, the Boulder History Museum, the CU Heritage Center, the Central Park Band Shell, the Municipal Building Plaza and Folsom Field with special events at each site. Boulder Acoustic Society and Blue Canyon Boys perform a free bluegrass concert at the Band Shell at 2 p.m. For a full schedule of events please visit www.boulder150.com.
Parenting Place’s 4th of July Children’s Parade — Come decorate your bike, wagon or stroller for a march around Boulder Creek.
The decorating begins at 2 p.m. and the parade begins at 2:30 p.m. Meet at the south side of 13th and Canyon streets by the Boulder Bandshell. Festivities include fresh watermelon and live tunes. Ralphie’s Indepence Day Blast — This year the fireworks display and celebration at Folsom Field features a special tribute to Boulder’s 150th birthday. The gates open at 7:45 p.m. and the festivities begin at 8 p.m. Live music will be provided by the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, entertainment by the City Open Space and Mountain Parks sing-along and the Skip-Its jump rope team.
Fireworks will top off the evening at 9:30 p.m. Avoid the traffic this year with free rides on the HOP and BUFF buses, available from downtown and the Twenty Ninth Street Mall to the stadium. This is a free community event, but donations will be accepted at the gate to keep the tradition going.
Stand up for Freedom — The Boulder Outdoor Theater kicks off this weekend with a free outdoor movie and arts festival. This Saturday at 7 p.m. is the Boulder premier of Kymatica, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009. Artists who would like to show their artwork on a 25-foot screen and other types of presentations will be shown throughout the event. Broomfield Fourth of July Great American Picnic — Bring the family to the Broomfield County Commons Park (13th Street and Sheridan Boulevard) for fireworks, family entertainment, pony rides, face painting and inflatables for the kids. Denver Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration at Four Mile Historic Park — Bring the whole family for a step back in time at the Four Mile Historic Park (715 S. Forest St.). The Independence party includes visits from Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Uncle Sam, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and a performance by the Denver Concert Band. Fireworks at INVESCO Field — The Denver Outlaws professional lacrosse team keeps the INVESCO Field Fourth of July tradition alive with the best Independence Day show in the city. Nederland First Annual Peak to Peak Music Festival — A parade and fireworks have long been a tradition in Nederland. This year the celebration has been expanded into a festival with a full music lineup and a pub crawl. The parade, which is free to the public, starts at 11 a.m. at the Jeff Guercio Memorial Ballfield (151 East Street). Gates open for the festival at 12:30 p.m. and the music starts at 1 p.m. with the Chicago Afrobeat Project. Other perfomers include Elephant Revival, Smooth Money Gesture, Motorhome, Mountain Standard Time and Zepparella. At dusk there is a fireworks display launched above Barker Reservoir. Music continues in town at Whistler’s Cafe, First Street Pub and Grill and several other local venues.
